Student: Yardley Martinez

Class of 2016 Graduate / Valedictorian / STEM Scholars Fellow

Research Topic: Phytoremediation in Rice

Yardley Martinez was a 4.0 GPA student. He graduated this May and was deservedly given the honor of valedictorian. He joined the LSAMP program in 2015 fueled by his interest in science.

"The LSAMP Program has exposed me to new and innovative ways of looking at science. They have helped me tremendously with my growth and have fueled me to pursue my career in Science."



Student: Andre Christie

Class of 2016 Graduate / International Scholar Laureate Program Awardee / NIH Summer Research Program Fellow

Research Topic: Monitoring of Greenhouse Gases in the Bronx

Andre Christie joined the LSAMP program in 2016 and he enjoyed the research experience.


"Participating in the LSAMP program was a tremendous success for me. This was the first time I received the opportunity to conduct research. The LSAMP program has been very supportive in providing the essential training on being a researcher and becoming a mentor for those to come by creating the platform to network with other students within CUNY."



Student: Hakim Mitchell

Class of 2016 Graduate / Summer Research Program in Columbia

Research Topic: Digital Signal Processing

Hakim Mitchell attended Bronx Community College (BCC) from 01/2015-06/2016. He joined the LSAMP program in 2016. During the summer of 2016 he travelled to Cali, Colombia with the LSAMP where he performed Signal Processing research at the Universidad del Valle. He transferred to the College of Nanoscale Science and Engineering and is majoring in Nanoscale Science.


"My project was investing the mathematics that models Signal Processing. With the help of Professor Laul I invested: complex numbers, inner product spaces, Fourier transforms, and Hilbert spaces. We investigated these topics and how they can aid us in understanding Digital Signal Processing. "

"Colombia was a wonderful experience for me I got to experience a new culture, language, and gain valuable experience towards becoming a scientist."



Student: Koffi Apegnadjro

2016 LSAMP- Empire Innovators Program in China / Summer Research in Brazil

Research Topic: Synthesis and Delithiation of LiMn2-xAlxO4


"My perspective of the world has changed since my return from China. I have seen high level technological system and exposed to a brand new culture."

Student: Stephen Mensah

2016 CUNY-SUNY symposium poster presentations in Albany

Research Topic: DNA Barcoding and Phylogenetic Analysis of Plant Species: Urban Barcode Project of New York City

Stephen Mensah worked with Dr. Rujin Tian on DNA Barcoding and Phylogenetic Analysis of Plant Species. He participated in 2016 CUNY/SUNY Undergraduate Research meeting and presented his research

Research Topic: Assessing Water Quality of the Harlem and Hudson Rivers

Roylan Fernandez attended 2014 CUNY/SUNY Undergraduate Research meeting and represented BCC to present his research poster.




Student: Michael Korber

2014 CUNY-SUNY symposium poster presentations in Albany

Research Topic: Cops and Robbers On Graphs

Michael Korber worked with Dr. Kerry Ojakian on the project"Cops and Robbers On Graphs." He attended 2014 CUNY/SUNY Undergraduate Research Symposium and presented his research poster.
