MTH 28.5 - College Algebra and Elementary Trigonometry (Corequisite) 6 hours 3 credits Fundamentals of elementary, intermediate and college algebra essential for the study of pre-calculus and calculus. Topics include linear equations, polynomials, factoring, roots and radicals, rational expressions, quadratic equations, the function concept, and the trigonometric ratios.

Supplementary material:Prerequisites: None. Students with Math Proficiency Index less than 40 are strongly encouraged to enroll in Math Start or CUNY Start, before taking college-level mathematics courses. This course is open to students who do not meet criteria for MTH 28.
That is, MTH 28.5 is for
- students who are not CUNY Math Proficient
- students who are CUNY Math Proficient but do not meet the higher qualifications needed for MTH 28. For example, a student could be CUNY Math proficient, but if the student has not met any of criteria #1 or 2 or 3 for MTH 28, then the student should take MTH 28.5.
- Mathematics high school GPA of at least 70 and successful completion of a course beyond Algebra 1;
- New York State Regents Trigonometry Score of at least 65;
- New York State Regents Common Core Algebra 2 Score of at least 65.
