Mission Statement
The NYC Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation (NYC-LSAMP) is an alliance of 17 CUNY Colleges and the CUNY Graduate Center. The Alliance goal is to substantially increase the number of underrepresented minority students who pursue and graduate with Baccalaureate Degrees in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM). From its inception in November 1992, the Alliance has been at the forefront of a concerted effort to increase annual Minority STEM enrollment and graduation in the City University of New York. The Alliance provides academic scholarship support to CUNY students majoring in the STEM disciplines, making research an integral part of STEM education in New York City.
Eligibility
- Minority group: African American, Hispanic, Native American or Pacific Islander
- Full time student taking 12 or more credits at a CUNY campus
- Majoring in STEM related discipline
- GPA of 2.8 or higher
- U.S Citizen or Permanent Resident

How to apply
- Fill out the pre-application form at Fall 2017-Spring 2018 Pre-application Form
- Meet with an LSAMP faculty or activity coordinator (contact information can be found below)
- Meet with your potential mentor
- Complete the Fall 2017-Spring 2018 application form at https://hipenetwork.net/orgs/louis-stokes-alliance-for-minority-participation-l/
- Bring or email to LSAMP activity coordinator Mr. Samsondeen Raheem a copy of each of the following documents:
- Transcript
- Social Security card
- Proof of U.S. Citizenship (passport or birth certificate) or Permanent Resident status (Green card)
- Resume or CV
- Attend LSAMP orientation (even if you are awaiting acceptance letter)
Project Responsibilities
- Semester: 12-15 hours per week for 14 weeks or Summer: 25-30 hours per week for 10 weeks
- Attend LSAMP student workshops (often at City College)
- Update the LSAMP activity coordinator about your progress
- Present preliminary report in City College workshop
- Prepare poster presentation for the annual science fair at BCC (often in April or May)
- Submit final report to LSAMP central office
