Course Description: This course is primarily for students who may need a working knowledge of statistics. Topics selected from the fundamentals of modern statistical methods, probability and sampling, descriptive and inferential statistics, the normal distribution, central limit theorem.

Course Goals: Become familiar with the basic concepts and techniques of data analysis and interpretation. Understand basic probability and statistics, as well as appreciating the fundamentals of statistical concepts and methods including random variables, probability distributions, confidence intervals and hypothesis testing. 


Prerequisite: Math Proficiency Index of at least 60

Attendance policy: Please try not to miss any class meetings.

 

Homework: We will use online system WeBWork for homework MTH23 . Your username and initial password for the students is your first name with last name -- "firstnamelastname" (no dots, no spaces).All letters are in lower case.

 

Quizzes: We will have weekly quizzes (in class or take-home) on WebWork. 

 

Midterm: There will be one midterm exam. In general, the exam cannot be made up except that you have a justified absence during a test (A doctor’s note is needed to justify illness)

 

Final Exam:  The date/time will be announced later in the semester.
