We are not coordinating lodging, but here are some suggestions.

Booking tips:

New York City lodging is very expensive. So booking in advance is recommended.

There are several good website that can help with booking hotel rooms: kayak.com, booking.com, expedia.com and tripadvisor.com are good options.

Inexpensive Manhattan hotels often have bathrooms in the hallway, shared with other rooms; and many hotel search engines now list beds indormitories along with normal hotel rooms, even in 3-star and 4-star hotels. Check what you're getting and avoid unpleasant surprises.

When you book, check if the refundable rate is reasonable: prices go up and down a lot, so you could find a better deal later. If you do book at a refundable rate, check for better options several times within 14, 7, 2, 1 days before the arrival.

IF WE'VE OFFERED TO PAY FOR YOUR LODGING, FOLLOW EMAILED INSTRUCTIONS!

Further: most parts of Queens and Brooklyn are safe and pleasant and easily accessible by subway, and much less expensive.
